Effect of Sinter Composition on Emissions: A Multi-Component, Highly-Constrained Mixture Experiment

Pages 261-267 | Published online: 21 Feb 2018

Abstract

An environmental phenomenon called “blue haze” occurred intermittently in the vicinity of a sinter plant's off-gas stacks. A statistically-designed pilot plant study was conducted to investigate the possible relationships between the various types of sinter plant feedstock and “blue haze.” A complex series of restrictions among the proportions of eight types of feedstock had to be incorporated into the experiment. Mixture experimentation techniques were used to select the experimental trials and identify the types of feedstock that appeared to be related to the degree of off-gas opacity.
