Abstract
This article reviews the current evidence base for the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of hypersexual conditions. Controversy concerning this diagnosis is discussed. Terminology and diagnostic criteria, as well as psychological, psychopharmacological, and other treatment approaches, are presented.
Both authors are employed by the New York State Office of Mental Health, and they have no support from drug companies. Dr. Krueger is on the DSM-V Work Group on Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders and the paraphilias subgroup, and Dr. Kaplan is an advisor to the Paraphilias Subworkgroup of the DSM-V Work Group on Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders.
