Pages 87-89 | Published online: 17 Jul 2012

Abstract

This article addresses the need to extend to the public school settings the ecological theory of child development that has been used to guide early intervention programs for the risk children. The role of the family and the community need to be included in our efforts to educate at risk children. Furthermore, we need to address social and emotional needs as well as cognitive or academic needs in order to promote school success.
