Abstract
Comparisons are made between various electro-optical response functions for nematic dropletlpolymcr films. The bases behind film dichroism, scattering, and dielectric constant are discussed. It is shown that the measurement of film haze can be related to the specular transmission of the film, and that the scattering electro-optical response is insensitive to the f/# of the collection device. The scattering vs. field response for these films is shown to have a strong wavelength dependence. The dichroic, scattering, and dielectric response functions for the same films are compared, and it is seen that the dichroic response requires higher fields for saturation than the scattering or dielectric responses.
