13C NMR Relaxation and Order in Neat 60CB and 80CB

Abstract

We have recently considered the dynamics of the re-entrant 60CB180CB using 13C NMR relaxation,1 and an analysis2-3 based on 2H relaxation.4 Here we investigate the order parameters of neat 60CB and 80CB. as well as the dynamics of these materials, including the effect of chain deuteration on correlation time. The results are compared to those for 6CB and 8CB, and a quantitative assessment of the differenccs in motion is made. An attempt is also made to relate these results to the structure and dynamics of 60CB/80CB re-entrants.
