Abstract

Some twenty years ago, the slow decay of the stress autocorrelation function in dense liquids near the solid–fluid transition point was speculated to be due to transient crystal nuclei formation. With additional computer power, we are now able to establish for hard discs the length of time for which the biggest such nuclei exists at a given density.
