Contributions to the Zeeman splitting of cubic crystal field levels of lanthanide ions

Abstract

Spin hamiltonians describing the Zeeman splitting of cubic states in the 4f 13 configuration are given. Covalent (direct and indirect) and vibronic contributions to the magnetic moment reduction of a single f hole in cubic, octahedral and tetrahedral crystal fields are discussed.
