Abstract
The optical absorption and magnetic circular dichroism (m.c.d.) of tris(acetylacetonato) iron III [Fe(acac)3] in solution and polymer film has been measured at various temperatures over the region 3000–6000 Å.
The m.c.d. shows three broad bands at 3500 Å, 4300 Å and 5000 Å. Temperature-dependent measurements show that the m.c.d. is mainly determined by the Faraday C parameter. An interpretation is given on the basis of spin-orbit coupling mechanisms. The band at 5000 Å is assumed to be a spin-forbidden transition.
