Abstract

Measurements of the relative intensities of O(J) and S(J) lines in the vibrational Raman spectra of H2, D2 and N2 are reported. Using the numerical procedures and anharmonic constants presented in Part I, values are obtained for ratios of derivatives of the polarizability anisotropies γ = α - α. For H2 and D2,

and

For N2, γ10 = 2·63 ± 0·29. The value of γ10 for molecular hydrogen is in agreement with that obtained by Asawaroengchai and Rosenblatt.
