Abstract

Polarization measurements in collision-induced fluorescence experiments using sub-Doppler excitation are described using the Liouville-space formalism. The collision cross-sections appearing, usually known as multipole cross-sections, are shown to be directly related to the generalized cross-sections employed in transport and relaxation studies. Classical limits of the relevant multipole cross-sections are obtained.
