SUMMARY

The karyotype of multimmate rats from Afgoi (Somali Democratic Republic) is studied.

Their taxonomic assignment to the species Mastomys buberti (Wroughton, 1908) (Mammalia Rodentia) is confirmed by the existence of a 32 chromosome karyotype. By means of G-banding pattern analysis it has been possible to discuss their systematic affinity with other African multimammate rat species, particularly Mastomys natalensis (Smith, 1834).
