SUMMARY

This paper records the result of an investigation of the species of Pestalotia and Monochaetia, collected by E. J. Butler and his colleagues over a period of nearly twenty years in India and Burma. The investigation has shown that there are thirty-one species of Pestalotia and two of Monochaetia in these two countries. Of the thirty-one species of Pestalotia, two were not available for examination, two were in a very imperfect state so that their specific determination could not be made. Of the rest, four are proposed as new species : P. Taslimiana, P. Citri, P. pipericola and P. Lawsoniae.

We wish to express our gratitude to Dr. N. L. Bor, Forest Botanist, Dehra Dun, for his kindness in translating the diagnoses of the new species into latin.
