SUMMARY
Budding can be induced in Emmonsia crescens by alterations in temperature of incubation. Mycelia and conidia which have grown at 22–30 C produce large adiaspores when incubated at 37 C. If adiaspores which have reached a diameter not exceeding 200 μ are left 4–8 hr at room temperature, they germinate by extrusion of many hyphal germ tubes. If such adiaspores are returned to an incubation temperature of 37 C, very young germ tubes are converted to spherical buds. These budding cells simulate multiple budding of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and, rarely, multiple replication of conidia of Entomophthora coronata.
