SUMMARY
Several fungi in the Leptomitales are capable of fermenting glucose to D(—) lactic acid. These fungi possess lactate dehydrogenases which are specific for nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide and D(—) lactate. Certain aspects of the kinetics and physical properties of the enzyme in Sapromyces were studied. The lactate dehydrogenases of Sapromyces, Mindeniella, Aqualinderella and Apodachlya differ in mobility in starch gel electrophoresis.
