ABSTRACT
Fatty acids promoted perithecium and mycelial pigment formation by Ceratocystis ulmi on agar media containing hot water extracts of American elm wood, American elm leaves, and green and black tea. Abundant perithecia were produced on a medium containing only the extract of black tea, linoleic acid, and pyridoxine. Fewer perithecia were produced on this medium when oleic, myristic, palmitic, or lauric acids replaced linoleic. Media that supported perithecium formation usually induced mycelial pigmentation.
