In the published version of the article “Three new Pythium species from rice paddy fields” by Salmaninezhad & Mostowfizadeh-Ghalamfarsa, the cultures designated as holotypes of the three new Pythium species were not indicated as being preserved in a metabolically inactive state. As a consequence, the proposed new species are invalid based on Art. 40.8 of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants.
The names are validated herein:
Pythium heteroogonium Mostowf. & Salmaninezhad, sp. nov. MB831259
Synonym: Pythium heteroogonium Mostowf. & Salmaninezhad, Mycologia 111(2): 278 (2019) [MB818168], nom. inval. (Art. 40.8)

Holotype: Iran, FARS PROVINCE: Ramjard, from water ponds of Oryza sativa, 20 May 2014, F. Salmaninezhad, CBS 140941 (preserved in a metabolically inactive state).
Furthermore, the species are being kept in Mycology collection of Department of Plant Protection of Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran.
The Table 1 footnote in the published paper refers to type species. However, the correct term is holotype. As such the proper footnote text is as follows:
*CBS 141232, holotype.
† CBS 141231, holotype.
‡ CBS 140940, holotype.
§ CBS 140941, holotype.
The captions of Figures 5 and 8 were reversed in the published version. The correct captions for the figures are as follows:
Figure 5. Pathogenicity tests on roots and crown of rice (Oryza sativa). Pythium oryzicollum (Kr7) causes root and crown rot (left: control; right: infected crown and roots). control; right: infected crown and roots).
Figure 8. Average radial growth rate of Pythium heteroogonium (three isolates), P. longipapillum (three isolates), and P. oryzicollum (three isolates) on potato dextrose agar at different temperatures.
