Pages 585-601 | Received 07 Aug 1965, Published online: 05 Jan 2012

Abstract

A wool growth study has been made over most of the lifetime of 103 Romney ewes. from 14 months to seven years. Measurements were made of oven-dry wool production. yield, staple length, crimps per inch, and fibre diameter on four-monthly and yearly samples. The components of the four-monthly sample weights varied in their importance through the year,

Observations were made on the effects of pregnancy and lactation, and of repeated sampling, on wool growth, and also on the relationship of the first (14–18 months) to subsequent samples.

Observations were also made on staple strength over the lifetime of the ewes and on the effect of the number of lambs reared on staple strength.
