The effect of soil content of faeces on faecal organic matter values as determined by the loss on ignition technique

Pages 639-641 | Received 16 May 1969, Published online: 06 Feb 2012

Abstract

The possibility that the presence of large amounts of soil in the faeces of grazing animals could introduce error into the determination of faecal organic matter by the loss on ignition technique is discussed. The loss on ignition of some topsoils is reported, and possible errors induced in faecal organic matter values by the presence of soil in faeces are examined.
