Abstract
Extraction of pasture samples with acetone immediately after collection prevented losses of α-tocopherol for up to 11 days. For the analysis of a-tocopherol, column chromatography was a preferred alternative to thin-layer chromatography, and use of the method described enabled recoveries of 3H-α-tocopherol usually greater than 80%.
No relationship was found between α-tocopherol concentrations and selenium concentrations in pasture samples collected from areas with differing selenium status.
