Abstract
Twenty-four non-irrigated and 20 irrigated soils of the Manuherikia Valley, Central Otago, were studied. They were mainly sandy loams, with variable percentages of stones, and were from a wide range of parent material and surface topography. Soil physical properties were extremely variable.
Available moisture ranged from 0.73 in. to 3.61 in. for the top 12 in. of soil, and from 1.18 in. to 7.07 in. for the profile depth, which was usually 24 in.
