Effects of pasture height on intrapaddock distribution, adult emergence, and adult flight activity of soldier fly (Inopus rubriceps Macquart: Stratiomviidae)

Pages 533-537 | Received 10 Nov 1977, Published online: 30 Jan 2012

Abstract

Distribution of Inopus rubriceps Macquart was studied in plots subjected to low, medium, and high stocking rates. Larval and pupal densities and adult activity were greatest over areas of long pastures resulting from selective grazing. Larval numbers and total root weights were positively correlated. Reasons for soldier fly aggregation in these areas are discussed.
