Abstract
The modern pollen spectra from 2 surface samples from cushion bogs above 500 m a.s.l. on Stewart Island are dominated by pollen of forest trees (mainly podocarps) which grow at lower altitudes. Nothofagus fusca type contributes 9 and 16% of the 2 samples and is derived from mainland New Zealand. Generally, fewer derived pollen types are recorded on Stewart Island than on Antipodes and Chatham Island.
