Abstract
The submerged vegetation of three high altitude glacial lakes in the South Island of New Zealand; Lakes Heron, Clearwater, and Camp, was briefly inspected in 1982. The species recorded, their depth ranges, and abundances are reported.
All three lakes had a diverse submerged vegetation which included a shallow-water low mixed community; a mid-depth community oftall native angiosperms and the adventive Elodea canadensis with a characean understorey; and abundant deeper growths of characean algae.
