Abstract

Type material of Fagus ninnisiana Unger consisting of the lectotype and syntypes housed in the Naturhistorisches Museum Vienna, includes specimens with preserved cuticle. Cuticular anatomy confirms the placing of Fagus ninnisiana within Nothofagus. The fossils were collected from the Waikato Coal Measures during the Novara Expedition and are of Eocene-Oligocene age.
