Gentiana lilliputiana (Gentianaceae), a new, minute, annual from New Zealand

Pages 1-3 | Received 01 May 1989, Accepted 31 Oct 1989, Published online: 05 Dec 2011

Abstract

A new species of Gentiana is described from New Zealand. G. lilliputiana C. Webb is a minute annual and usually bears only a single, terminal, 4-merous flower. It is most similar to the annual G. filipes but that species usually has larger and more numerous, 5-merous flowers with a more deeply divided corolla and calyx. G. lilliputiana occurs in bogs and flushes on the Kirkliston Range (South Canterbury) and the Dunstan Mountains (Central Otago).
