Abstract

Matthews, J. A. 1987. A comment on ‘Neoglaciation in South Norway using lichenometric methods’. Norsk geogr. Tidsskr. Vol. 41, 61–67. Oslo. ISSN 0029-1951.

The paper by Lars Erikstad and Johan Ludvig Sollid on lichenometric dating of ‘Little Ice Age’ moraines, which appeared in the previous volume of Norsk geografisk Tidsskrift (Vol. 40: 85-105), is discussed. Particular attention is given to the limitations of their ‘Adjusted mountain curve’ and to the problems of regional lichenometric dating curves. It is suggested that the age of moraines in Jotunheimen and Nordvestlandet may be underestimated by up to 40 years and hence that many of their conclusions are questionable.
