Systematics and phylogeny of cockroaches (Dictyoptera: Blattaria)

Abstract

The systematics and phylogeny of the Blattaria are reviewed. Subjects covered are: taxonomic and diagnostic characters, fossils, classification, families, genera, estimates of number of taxa, non-classical taxonomy, identification, scientific and vernacular names; a glossary, and brief sketches of some Masters of cockroach taxonomy are included. Previously unreported, Cahita gradlis Rocha is a junior synonym of Symploce pollens (Stephens).
