ABSTRACT
The solubility of mesalazine in {acetonitrile + water} mixtures was reported at T = (293.2–313.2) K and correlated with some cosolvency models namely van’t Hoff, Apelblat, Jouyban-Acree, Jouyban-Acree-van’t Hoff, combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich-Kister, modified Wilson, NRTL and UNIQUAC models. The Yalkowsky and extended Yalkowsky models were employed to predict the solubility data. The apparent thermodynamic quantities of dissolution and mixing for mesalazine in aqueous acetonitrile solutions were computed. Finally, preferential solvation analysis demonstrates that mesalazine is preferentially solvated by water in almost all the mixtures, except in the region 0.19 < x1 < 0.29.
