Abstract
Esen Arkis was born in 1950 at Izmir, Turkey. He was educated at Bornova Anadolu Lisesi for junior high and high schools. He won a scholarship during the last year of high school and went to Massachusetts, USA through the AFS (American Field Service) organization in the United States as an exchange student and received his high school diploma from Medfield High School in 1968. With other AFS students in his area, he made a trip to the western United States after school, and returned to his country in the same year. He was trained in Bosphorus University in Istanbul at the department of chemistry for one year, but he wanted to be a chemical engineer and he started training in Izmir at the faculty of chemical engineering in a private university, which was joined to Aegean University.
