Abstract
I grew up with the yo-yo and the hula hoop. Both toys have ancient roots and both toys have been re-invented many times with variations as the free-spinning yo-yo and glitter-covered hula hoops. The story of the modern hula hoop touches on some important industrial practices. The original hula hoops were made from a variety of materials as metal, braided reed, wood, and vines. The hula hoop of today is made from synthetic polymers, mainly polypropylene and polyethylene.
