Abstract
Only two of the ulcerative diseases of the gastrointestinal tract—gastric ulcer and ulcerative colitis—are forerunners of cancer, and evidence is tenuous in gastric ulcer, Statistics indicate that only 1 percent of patients with chronic gastric ulcer but 3 to 6 percent of patients with ulcerative colitis may eventually have carcinoma.
