Is the Optic Disk Swollen?

, MD
Pages 173-176 | Published online: 07 Jul 2016

Abstract

What appears to be a swollen optic disk could be evidence of either serious or benign disease, or it could be a normal disk in a farsighted patient. Early disk edema is hard to detect, but two relatively simple procedures that are helpful are (1) visual field examination with emphasis on size of the blind spot and (2) fluorescein angiography.
