Because lung cancer is often detected on chest films, annual surveillance in patients at risk is crucial. However, discovering a spot on a chest film is only the beginning of the diagnostic process. In this article, Dr Petty proposes a practical approach to establishing the diagnosis and determining appropriate treatment of both small-cell and non-small-cell carcinomas.
