Dasymetric Spatiotemporal Interpolation

Abstract

This research applies the principles of dasymetric mapping to spatiotemporal interpolation by extending the spatial concepts of zone and area to their temporal analogs of interval and duration, respectively. An example application of dasymetric spatiotemporal interpolation using crime event data is presented. Results indicate that dasymetric spatiotemporal interpolation significantly improves the accuracy of estimates over areal or duration weighting. In addition, even when dasymetric interpolation in either the spatial or temporal dimension is relatively weak, combining dasymetric estimation in both space and time dimensions simultaneously has the potential to amplify the accuracy of the overall dasymetric estimation.

Esta investigación aplica los principios del mapeo dasimétrico a la interpolación espaciotemporal, llevando los conceptos espaciales de zona y área a sus análogos temporales de intervalo y duración, respectivamente. Se presenta un ejemplo de aplicación de la interpolación dasimétrica espaciotemporal mediante el uso de datos de eventos criminales. Los resultados indican que la interpolación dasimétrica espaciotemporal mejora significativamente la exactitud de los cálculos sobre ponderación espacial o de duración. También, incluso cuando la interpolación dasimétrica es relativamente débil tanto en la dimensión espacial como la temporal, combinar el cálculo dasimétrico simultáneamente en las dimensiones de espacio y tiempo tiene el potencial de ampliar la exactitud del cálculo general dasimétrico.
