1 Regionally, these twenty-eight SIDS are distributed as ten Caribbean, eleven Pacific, and seven AIMS.

2 No further subdivision is made among SIDS, although Connell suggests further subdivision among the Pacific SIDS: Micronesian, Melanesian, and Polynesian SIDS. He correctly stated that the SIDS of Melanesia are more diverse linguistically than the SIDS of Micronesia and Polynesia.

3 The twenty-second edition of Ethnologue is offered in three print volumes organized geographically: Languages of Africa and Europe, Languages of the Americas and the Pacific, and Languages of Asia.
