Watts' dissenting rhetoric of prayer

Abstract

Responding to the unique requirements of an eighteenth century religious movement, Isaac Watts developed a unique rhetoric. This study identifies the importance of Watts’ theory and analyzes his curious blending of opposing assumptions about divine discourse in organizing a doctrine based upon the five officia.
