Women in communication studies: A typology for revision

Five conceptualizations of women dominate contemporary research practices in communication studies: Womanless Communication; Great Women Communicators; Woman as Other; The Politics of Woman as Other; Women as Communicators. Each conceptualization is examined to show the implicit assumptions that perpetuate the exclusion of women's communication from research practices and findings. The inclusion of female experience in communication studies demands collaborative and critical attention to the politics of conducting research.
