The Internationalization of R & D and the Development of Global Research Networks

Abstract

The paper considers processes associated with, and conceptualization of, the internationalization of R & D, using the pharmaceuticals and chemical/energy sectors as ways of illustration. Wider issues relating to research internationalization are considered, including changes in the macro research and technological environment and the growth of inter-organizational research collaboration. Other wider organizational changes are considered, including the impact of information and communication technologies, in relation to research location and structure, before the paper concludes with a re-assessment of current conceptualization of R & D in light of these changes.

Get article met en considération les démarches nécessaires à l'internationalisation de la R et D et la conceptualisation de celle-là, en se servant des industries pharmaceutiques et de l'énergie comme études de cas. Des questions d'une plus grande envergure concernant l'internationalisation de la recherche sont considérées, y compris les changements dans l'environnement de la macro-recherche et de la technologie, et la croissance de la collaboration inter-entreprise. D'autres changements de grande portée sont considérés, y compris l'impact des technologies de l'information et de la communication par rapport à la localisation et à la structure de la recherche. Dieser Aufsatz behandelt das Konzept der Internationalisierung von Forschung und Entwicklung, und Vorgänge, die damit in Verbindung stehen, wobei der pharmazeutische und der chemische/bzw. Energiesektor zur Illustration benutzt werden. Weitreichendere Fragen, die sich auf die Internationalisierung der Forschung beziehen, werden erwogen, wie der Wandel, der in der Forschung, der technologischen Umwelt und der Zunahme interorganisatorischer Zusammenarbeit in der Forschung stattgefunden hat. Andere weitreichende organisatorische Veränderungen werden in Betracht gezogen, einschliesslich der Auswirkung der Informations-und Kommunikationstechnologie im Verhältnis zu Standorten und Struktur von Forschungs vorhaben, bevor der Aufsatz mit einer Neubewertung der gegenwärtigen Konzeptualisierung von Forschung und Entwicklung im Lichte dieser Veränderungen abschliesst.
