THE BIOLOGY OF THE AGULHAS SOLE, AUSTROGLOSSUS PECTORALIS, PART 2. AGE AND GROWTH

Pages 33-41 | Published online: 26 Mar 2010

Summary

A method using cleared otoliths for age determination is described. Otolith size and fish length form a linear relationship. The Von Bertalanffy growth equation has been plotted and has an Loo value of 44 cm. Females increase in length and weight faster, and also reach a greater age than males. Females are recruited to the fishery between three and four years of age and the males at a year older.
