Abstract

Fifteen isolates of the Chrysosporium state of Arthroderma tuberculatum and the 2 tester strains were crossed with each other in all possible combinations on oatmeal salts agar. Of the 17 isolates, 8 were of the — mating type, and the remaining 9 were of the + mating type. None of the the 17 isolates were self-fertile. Of the 72 crosses between + and — isolates, 62 were fertile and 10 were completely sterile. Of the 62 fertile crosses, 17 were poorly fertile producing less than 100 gymnothecia in each of the crosses, and the 45 crosses were abundantly fertile. The present study leaves no doubt about the heterothallic nature of A. tuberculatum.
