The little known Icelandic amphipod Cheirocratella thori Stephensen, 1940 (Melphidippoidea) is redescribed on the basis of the second and third specimens ever collected. Like the type specimen, the new ones are also females. C. thori clearly belongs to the Cheirocratus group of genera, and appears to have many plesiomorphic character states within this group. A full analysis must wait until the males of this species and of Degocheirocratus spani Karaman, 1984 have been collected and described.
