The taxonomy of some North Atlantic species referred to Ledella and Yoldiella (Bivalvia)

Pages 213-219 | Received 20 Jan 1978, Published online: 21 Dec 2011

Abstract

Ledella bushae sp.n. is described. This is L. messanensis in the sense of Verrill & Bush, not Seguenza, 1870. The synonymy of Leda acuminata Jeffreys, 1870, is discussed and this species is transferred to the genus Yoldiella Verril & Bush, 1897. The relations to the fossil L. messanensis (Seguenza) are discussed. Some clues for identification of the south Scandinavian species of Yoldiella are given. A new species from the Bay of Biscay, Yoldiella folini, earlier referred to L. messanensis, is described.
