Abstract

A new apparatus for direct measurement and continuous recording of oxygen saturation in whole blood is described.

Variations in the hemoglobin values and also the concentration of Evans blue and cardiogreen can be read on the scale. The readings are very stable and accurate and are reproducible in flowing as well as in standing blood.

The instrument can record changes in oxygen saturation in streaming blood down to 1/3 per cent.
