Abstract

Petersen, H. 1970. The Effect of Pure Natural Secretin on the Bicarbonate Secretion into the Duodenum in Man. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 105-111.

The bicarbonate response to an intravenous injection of one clinical unit of pure natural secretin per kg body weight was examined in 26 healthy young females and males. Repeated examinations with 5, 0.2, 0.04, and 0 clinical units per kg body weight were performed in three males. A near maximal response which lasted for more than 2 hours was obtained with one clinical unit per kg body weight. The bicarbonate output was related to the body weight. The magnitude and duration of the response indicated that the effect per clinical unit of the pure natural secretin was greater than that of the older secretin preparations.
