Abstract

Berstad, A. & Petersen, H. 1970. Effect of Secretin on Histamine- and Pentagastrin-induced Secretion of Pepsin in Man. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 459-463.

The secretion of pepsin in response to the combination of one clinical unit/kg of pure, natural secretin injected intravenously and 50 μg/kg of histamine dihydrochloride or 6 μg/kg of pentagastrin injected subcutancously, was compared to the pepsin response to histamine and pentagastrin alone. Secretin had no effect on the secretion of pepsin induced by histamine, whereas the combination of pentagastrin with secretin resulted in higher concentration and output of pepsin than did pentagastrin alone. The amount of pepsin secreted per mEq of acid was greater in response to the applied dose of histamine than to the dose of pentagastrin.
