Abstract

Kronborg, O. 1970. Results of Prolonged Insulin Tests in Patients with Duodenal Ulcer. Comparison between Insulin- and Histamine-activated Gastric Acid Secretion. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 695-702.

Gastric acid secretion in patients with duodenal ulcer, before and 2-4 hours after intravenous injection of 0.4 I. E. of insulin/kg body weight, is analysed. A comparison between the insulin test and the augmented histamine test is made in 87 patients with duodenal ulcer. The gastric acid secretion of the patients is characterized by a MIA higher than 45 meq/1, MIAO and PIAO higher than 5.0 meq/h, TIAO higher than 10.0 meq/2 h, and a minimal pH after insulin injection lower than 2.0.
