Abstract

Binder, Vibeke. 1970. The Content of Eosinophil Granulocytes in the Colonic Mucosa in Ulcerative Colitis. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 707-712.

The content of eosinophil granulocytes in the colonic mucosa was examined in 149 biopsy specimens; 90 of these were obtained from patients with ulcerative colitis, 42 from patients with other colonic diseases, and 17 from normal controls. The values varied considerably within the colitis patients, since the number of eosinophils was above normal in one group consisting of approximately 60 per cent of the patients, while in the other it did not exceed the highest normal value found. Ä number of anamnestic and clinical parameters were examined in the two groups, but the only positive correlations found were between the number of eosinophil granulocytes and the total number of sells in the lamina propria, and between the percentage of eosinophils and the clinical stage of activity.
