Rehfeld, J. F. & Hippe, E. 1970. Serum Insulin Response to Oral Glucose in Pernicious Anemia. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 713-717.
Serum insulin and blood glucose were measured during oral and intravenous glucose tolerance tests in 8 patients with pernicious anemia and in 11 control subjects. In the patients with pernicious anemia the average insulin response was significantly higher during the oral glucose loading. In contrast the parenteral glucose administration led to equal serum insulin concentrations. These findings suggest an altered gastrointestinal humoral insulin stimulation in pernicious anemia.
