Abstract
Gedde-Dahl, D. Radioimmunoassy of gastrin. Fasting serum levels in humans with normal and high gastric acid secretion. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 41–47.
A radioimmunoassay for gastrin giving accuracy, sensitivity and precision parameters, using rabbit anti-albumin-SHG as antiserum and Dextran-coated charcoal for separation is described. In 298 patients with different diseases but with normal or high pentagastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion fasting serum gastrin concentrations were determined. A mean of 65.9 (1 SD 42.2) pg/ml and a normal range of 10 to 150 pg/ml were found in the 205 patients with normal gastric acid secretion. No differences were found between sexes or age groups, nor was any difference found between patients with normal and high gastric acid secretion. No correlation was found between basal acid output or maximal acid output and fasting serum gastrin concentration in these patients. Persons with ulcus corporis ventriculi had significantly higher fasting serum gastrin levels than others whereas peptic ulcer patients did not differ from normals.
