Abstract
Capoferro, R. A scanning electron microscopic study of normal and X-irradiated guinea-pig gastric mucosa. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 533–538.
The normal gastric mucosa of the guinea-pig revealed a surface structure resembling that of other laboratory animals and man. Three and five weeks after irradiation to the stomach, the mucosal surface was markedly irregular with the formation of small sessile polyps. This seems to indicate abnormal cellular growth with increased desquamation and turnover. The anomalous patterns of the surface structure may be correlated with similar conditions in human chronic gastritis.
